My 3 months old kitty Timi (aka Rusty) has had neurological issues during sleep since a month ago. She has had multiple vet visits so far costing up to ~€600 yet no diagnosis has been given yet.
To begin with, I noticed that she seemed lethargic and would sleep a lot more than usual. The next day, as I monitored her sleep, I’ve found that she was unconscious, in a syncopic state. The duration of the state are 5-10 seconds in length, but very frequent, every 2-3 minutes. No stimuli would wake her up, and this only happens during sleep.
When I took her to the vet that same day, she was given meloxydyl 0.5mg/ml to be given orally once a day as she had a slight fever. The fever is not very prevalent at the moment, however, she began to have diarrhea, perhaps in reaction to the medicine.
Once again, we visited the clinic after as I also noticed when the kitten sleeps on my chest that how I could tell that she has become unconscious is by noticing that her heart rate drops all of a sudden. I could shake her or pick her up but she would not wake up.
The veterinarians at the clinics said that due to her eating and hydrating as normal, and being active during the day to be in a frequent syncopic state only during her sleep is quite strange.
Today, we visited a neurology specialist for examination and she requested that she get her blood work done for underlying conditions that could possibly be affecting her heart rate/nerve functions. There’s a wide range of test that has to be done and be shipped to Germany for the lab analysis.
I am currently a veterinary student myself, and with the remaining money I have for the month after the vet visits so far I could barely cover the bill. I am desperate to get this analysis done so we can provide her with any necessary treatment in the future. If you can help at all, I would be so grateful.
