Be a friend of Rusinga Island Project for the Disabled Persons. An Island with a population of 5K+ people, the are 120 disable persons who have been recorded physically or mentally disable. Unfortunately they lack a rehabilitation centre which they can go for day care. Rusinga Disability Project wish to build a low cost rehabilitation centre for this people where they can acess day care centre.

Rusinga Island project is a registered, community-based organization that works for young children and adults with Disabilities to help them access services available that would enable them improve their lives, founded in September 2011 and run by Parents of Children with Disabilities in Rusinga Island/Mbita Sub- County, Homa Bay County, Kenya and volunteers from countries, such as, Germany, USA, Canada, Finland, Egypt and the UK.

During the past six years we have noticed that the condition of disabled people is still very poor in Rusinga Island. There is still a stigma attached to disability leading to a lack of rights for disabled people. In the last three years we have carried out research on disabled children and their families. Our findings have sown that these disabled children and their families need a lot more support, more knowledge about their conditions and therapy for their children. These families need a place to meet. There is only one physiotherapist and one occupation therapist and no speech therapist for 30,000 people on Rusinga Island and the surrounding area.

Our project objective is to build a rehabilitation center in Rusinga west where these services can be provided and the physiotherapist can visit many disabled children in one visit.

We are in dire need of support, both financially and from experts in the field. For the sake of the hundreds of most invisible children those who are often ignored and forgotten, young children with disabilities, who for centuries, have faced marginalization and exclusion.

Your donation shall help to:-

1. Build a first phase center for meeting the Disabled Persons

2. Buy some supportive equipment to be used by physiotherapy

3. Any other key basic needs for the disabled persons
