Many cultures and arts.
A place. RurART.it house.
All began when a family, with economic problems, asked us if we were interested to buy their old and abandoned rural house. The farm of this family was failed about ten years before and the man, with his mother, both with serious health problems, were not able to deal with the management fees.
Why they asked it to us?
Because from long time we desired to create a school where students, craftsmen, designers and artists work together with a common goal: regenerate and recover old rural buildings to maintain their memory and preserve rural landscape.
It was the 2014 when we bought that house. Now it is called "RurART.it House".
We are Federica and Luciano. I'm a software developer and my husband, Luciano, is an architect. We share passion for architecture, especially rural architecture. So when that family asked us to become the owners of this old building (it dates back the early of 1800), we considered it like a sign of the destiny as to tell we had to start our school, a sort of new “Bauhaus". For this reason we decided to help them.

In 2015 we founded RurART.it (this is the site), the cultural association, and presented the project to the Venice University of Architecture. We agreed with the institute a convention for credit attribution and we started to work with students.
From the beginning about 42 students attended to different workshops where artisans, architects and building engineers work together. These education formula allows students to approach a real construction site, to learn the theory and practice of recovery techniques and building restoration, to collaborate with constructions professionals to a common target: give new life to an abandoned building.
For all members of association the opinion is that this approach should become a model for the recovery and redevelopment of buildings and areas abandoned. So together we are making research on techniques, materials and financial aspects of this experience.
Me and Luciano chose to maintain the ownership of “RurART.it House” until the end to the recovery to avoid every cost to the association, so we are configured as the customers of this project.
RurART.it House shall become the headquarter of the association, a cultural center opened to the community (for events, expositions, meetings), a place for designers and artists, and hostel for students, groups and bike-tourists.
The building is located near a bicycle lane in the countryside of the North of Italy: a landscape rich of ancient villas. At the same time this environment is damaged by the presence of small industrial buildings, now abandoned due to the crisis. Our dream is to recover these contexts and regenerate rural buildings to create new opportunity for the community and young people.
In this moment it's urgent for us the restore of the laboratory to move all educational materials from the working area. Unfortunately we have to recover also the surrounding land from the polluting materials abandoned by the family farm (eternit panels, tractor tires, herbicides, end so on).
So we are facing a lot of costs to restore the environment and that prevents us to going on with the educational workshops.
We decided to start this crowdfunding for this reason and we hope you could understand the value of this project, so much important for the association, the students and the community.
When RurART.it House shall be completed we will be happy to host you if you come in Italy!
