Rural women face the brunt of the feminization of poverty and impacts of climate change. They are also the most vulnerable in conflict situations and humanitarian crisis with support systems in most cases weak, non existent and they also face stigmatization. The need for rural women to participate in leadership, business and entrepreneurship processes are urgent and one that needs to be urgrently addressed and given the desperate attention so that they can also start to participate fully, equally and activelly in economic life at all levels and stages of there lives.

Rural women are the ones who bear the biggest burden of care, domestic work and time-poverty as they juggle fetching water and firewood from long distances, cooking and cleaning, child bearing and caring for children and the aged with back breaking work in the farms and fields.

They also don’t have equal access to, ownership and control over land, property and other productive assets like finance entrepreneurship and other skills and capacity building. Therefore, this loan scheme is about empowering women to bring about the furthest left behind to the forefront of being prime beneficiaries and drivers of sustainable rural development.

Through this small-seed loan scheme, I want and envision to give hope to the rural women that it is possible and that it can yield dividends for all rural women as well as for the rural economy. I feel their confidence and the audacity of their ambition to forge ahead in life as empowered individuals.

Never before have I felt so strongly about the empowerment and education of rural women and of their families as one major enabler of a big leap to their self-development and empowerment and to afford them an opportunity to progress in sustainable rural development that would ultimately contribute to transformation for gender equality and rural women empowerment.

This Rural Women Empowerment is a product of my startup business Tradepoint Payment Solutions' (TPS) whose existence revolves around provision of small-seed capital loans to women and women grouops and its development objective is to enhance rural women’s increased income streams and opportunities that secure their livelihoods by promoting, supporting and training and imparting in them business, leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
