Running The Great North Run for the Issam Elkhawad Charitable Organisation in Sudan.

This year will mark 10 years since my father –a compassionate, selfless, fun-loving man– passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident.

In memory of him, my wonderful mother and I will be running the Great North Run (21km - a half marathon) to raise money for the Issam Charity Organisation (I.C.O) in Sudan. The I.C.O was set up in 2008 by my family in the Sudan and since this time has been working in the rural villages surrounding the village of Kali in northern Sudan, where my father was born. The work to date has included: carrying out malaria prevention and sanitation improvement work in these areas as well as supporting primary schools through improving classroom facilities and resources and helping rural primary school pupils with school fees.

Please support us in honoring the memory of my father by sponsoring my mother and I to run the Great North Run which will be taking place on Sunday 10th September in Newcastle. All funds raised will help continue the work of the Issam Charity Organisation.

While this is my first big run, my mother, Joy, who is still rocking it at almost 50 years old, has run the London Marathon twice, the Edinburgh Marathon once, the Eastbourne Half Marathon thrice and the Great North Run thrice.

Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated. For those of you who are close to my mother and were thinking of sending her a card or a present to celebrate her 50th birthday, upcoming in October, she respectfully thanks you in advance and instead asks you to support this cause as a way of celebrating her birthday, raising funds for a worthy cause, and remembering my beloved father.
