Our Story

On Ottawa race weekend, a bunch of us will run in various events. The purpose of our run is to raise awareness about the Syrian cause: There is a revolution for freedom happening in Syria and the Syrian people is paying a very heavy price to reach its goal of freedom and dignity. 

We would also like to make the event a fundraising occasion aimed towards helping Syrians in need. In the weeks leading to the event we will seek your help and generosity for supporting us and the Syrian cause.

We are very excited to be doing this and we hope you share our excitement. We decided to run a series ofraces on Ottawa Race Weekend (May 25th and 26th) to help raise awareness of the cause of the Syrian people and their quest for freedom, and hopefully to raise money to help Syrians in need during the crisis they face. 

It is a cause very dear to us as having watched our fellow Syrians pay an extremely heavy price for demanding their basic rights of freedom and dignity. For this reason, we cannot rest until we have raised more money to contribute, however slightly, to alleviate their suffering.

We will be a team of people running various races. We have a runner in the full marathon, one in the half marathon, and one in the 10 Kilometer race. In order to achieve this goal we are training very hard various times a week and will continue to do so for the next few months.

All money raised will be donated directly to  "A Heart For Syria", a Quebec based non- profit association with no political or religious affiliations. Their mission is to provide basic needs such as food, shelter, medical assistance and clothing; as well as assist people in improving their life conditions.

Notre histoire:

 

Un groupe d'entre nous participera à plusieurs événements de la fin de semaine des courses d'Ottawa. Le but est de sensibiliser le public à la cause syrienne qui peut être résumée comme suit: Les syriens sont en révolution pour obtenir leur liberté et dignité, et paient un très grand prix afin d'arriver à leur but.

 

Aussi, ce sera l'occasion pour nous de ramasser des fonds visant à aider les syriens dans leur besoins humanitaires. Nous comptons sur votre générosité pour nous aider à atteindre notre objectif.

 

Nous sommes très enthousiasmés par ce projet et espérons que vous partagez notre enthousiasme. 

 

La cause du peuple syrien nous est très chère car nos compatriotes paient un prix très lourd pour revendiquer leurs droits fondamentaux. C'est pour cette raison que nous allons travailler avec beaucoup d'acharnement pour recueillir des fonds qui vont contribuer, quoique légèrement, à alléger leurs souffrances.

 

Nous allons participer à plusieurs courses. Un coureur participera au marathon complet (42.2 kilomètres), un autre courra au demi-marathon (21.1 kilomètres) , et une autre courra la course de 10 kilomètres. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous nous entraînons très fort et plusieurs fois par semaine. Nous continuerons notre programme d'entrainement pendant les prochaines semaines.

 

Tous les fonds recueillis seront versés directement à "Un Coeur pour la Syrie", un organisme québécois à but non-lucratif sans affiliation politique ou religieuse. Leur mission est de fournir les besoins de base tels que nourriture, abris, soins médicaux et vêtements. Leur but est aussi d'aider les gens à améliorer leurs conditions de vie.
