Running for children with facial deformities

My name is Alex Thalassinos. I am a 26 year old Medical Student from Cyprus, currently in the 5th academic year, at the University of Semmelweis, in Budapest.

Last year, a couple of friends of mine signed me up for a half marathon run (21km) as a birthday present (good friends). Up to that point, I hated running, but I accepted the challenge, because I wanted to see how far I could actually last. After 3 months of training, I managed to complete my first half marathon with a time of 2 hours and 2 minutes. I enjoyed the journey so much, that I decided to run 21km, at least once a year.

During the run however, I saw that many people were running for a cause, and I decided that I also wanted to do that. The stress and pain that a human body bears while (and after) running such great distances is quite a lot, believe me. But eventually, all the foot blisters, all the cracked and broken nails, all the muscle aches and cramps will heal, and the body will recover.

Many people, including children, carry much more pain and suffering than just a couple of muscle cramps, and the saddest part is that a lot of them, cannot afford to deal with these problems. Cancer, Congenital heart diseases, Infectious diseases, congenital facial deformities and many more.

So, I created this account, because on the 15th of April 2018, I will be running my second half marathon in Budapest, but this time it will have a cause. Help me raise as much money as possible, to help children with facial deformities (eg. Cleft lip and/or cleft palate, craniosynostosis syndromes etc), that cannot afford the medical/surgical treatment. Many of these treatments however, require a series of surgeries, and in addition, a post operative therapy comprising of : speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy etc.

One account cannot raise enough money for a complete surgical treatment and post operative therapy, as this costs tens, even hundreds of thousand of euros/dollars/pounds. It can be enough though, for one of the numerous operations, for some sessions of speech therapy, for special food needed after surgery, for plane tickets to have the treatment abroad, anything!
