South African born, Zimbabwean Photographer / Filmmaker and Live Adventure Ambassador Ryan Moss is embarking on a cross Africa run 11000km, in 313 days, through 11 countries to raise funds and awareness for African Parks.
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities for the benefit of people and wildlife.
Back Ryan's Run Africa Project and help get him to Cairo to begin his run through Africa to Cape Town to raise funds and awareness about the conservation crisis currently underway in Africa.
“The protection of the world’s most vulnerable ecosystems and landscapes needs a bold approach and the enthusiastic support of sportsmen and women. For over 20 years, African Parks has been striving to save Africa’s last wild places, trying to innovate solutions to address the continental challenges we are facing and create a better future for people and wildlife.” - African Parks
In 2020, (Date TBC) Ryan will attempt a Guinness World Record Fastest journey from Cape Town to Cairo journey on foot but doing it vice versa, from Cairo to Cape Town. Run Africa is also aimed at raising funds and awareness for African Parks with a focus on wildlife conservation and the role rangers play in helping protect national parks across Africa. Ryan will run 11500 km, in 313 days through 10 countries and visiting five parks in the African Parks portfolio along the way.
"I believe we can gain enough attention to the serious environmental issues at hand as well as inspire and uplift the nation if not the world, to bring about change. At the same time tell the good stories of the people involved in the parks from management to the rangers who are educating and inspiring change. Much like me, and you and every other average person, who feels like they can’t do much, no matter what, you can!" - Ryan
Ryan’s goal as a runner, photographer and cinematographer is to raise funds and awareness about the critical work that rangers are performing in the field. Without Rangers on the ground, no effective law enforcement is possible and a critical link in counter-poaching efforts is missing.
Rangers unlock the value of African Parks work, both in terms of protecting wildlife and poverty alleviation for communities.
"I believe every success in the parks is based on the support, community and incredible work of the people on the ground that makes these parks successful as a whole. We need to get their stories out to the world to focus on the Rangers stories and raise awareness about their work on the front lines."
"In the time of such environmental concern, we need to talk about the solutions and innovations African Parks have implemented," he said.
Ryan is gearing up for his next adventure in the name of the environment, while being followed by a camera man and two support vehicles to document the expedition. Along the way, Ryan will be doing everything he can to get people's attention, he said. On his rest days, he will be stopping by communities to talk to as many people as he can about the impact African Parks is having across the continent.
