Run For Pancreatic Cancer Awareness!

My journey with pancreatic cancer...

On December 14, 2018, I was diagnosed with a pancreatic cancer. Days between diagnosis and surgery (somewhat blurred in my memory) were dark and depressing. Though I tried to keep my spirit high, I knew that odds were stacked against me.

Five days later, Dr. Glenn performed an extraordinarily complex surgery and removed a nasty tumor along with a third of my pancreas, pieces of neighboring organs, and a portion of my digestive system. It took a good doctor 8 hours to remove the cancerous cells and stitch remaining pieces back together.

After months of recovery, thanks to Doctors' Herculean efforts, some good karma, and good old-fashioned luck, I am happy to announce that the PET scan did not show any signs of cancer.

Even though I was lucky to survive (so far), pancreatic cancer is one of the world’s deadliest cancers, and we need more attention, awareness, and progress to help patients fight and survive this disease.

Dr. Glenn and I (and a dozen of our friends) will run 10 km StanChart race in Singapore on December 1, 2019 to increase pancreatic cancer awareness.

The Singapore Pancreatic Cancer Network was formed by doctors and scientists from NUH and NUS and is dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer. Together with industry collaborators, we lead cutting edge research in prevention, early detection and personalized treatment in this disease. Money raised from this initiative will go towards advancing research and supporting patients and families in their fight against pancreatic cancer.
