Rumbi’s Sound Engineer career jumpstart

My name is Rumbi and I have always had a passion for music. My journey began as a volunteer for the media team at my local church and the exposure to live events resulted in me wanting to pursue this as a profession. With a professional background in IT, I soon found it exciting to work with technology in a creative environment and merge that with my passion for music. I am presently transitioning and hoping to implement some innovative ideas as a creative within the following year. Over the last months, I have completed a few live sound courses online, due to limitations with physical classes due to Covid-19 pandemic.

As a creative, I would like to provide value through excellence in Sound engineering and stage setup focusing on live events.

I have been enrolled to study a Live Sound course offered by Rise Academy with the focus of gaining more practical experience as well as networking opportunities with other creatives and organizations that host events. I seek to raise funds for the tuition of R10000 for this course.

I would really appreciate the support as I embark on this new career journey in an industry where women are not well represented (estimated at around 5%). I intend to set up an annual bursary to encourage more women to enter this industry in the years to come. I would also like to pay it forward by creating a platform to mentor and coach the next generation, with a focus on women as well as build a network to allow sound engineers that volunteer in houses of worship to connect and share knowledge.
