The reason for all this madness

We work long hours, in difficult conditions and under a fair bit of stress. The work can damage relationships, normally induces some kind of substance addiction never mind what it does for our mental health behind closed doors. I suppose due to the stereotypes we all conform to, we don’t open up about it and we don’t ask about it. Construction is one of the largest occupation groups of suicides in men and I imagine the addiction centres have the same statistics. The closest we get to speaking up may be a drunken chat about something that’s not going quite right at home, or an acknowledgement that someone has been in a bad mood for quite a while now. Our tendency to present an emotionally closed off attitude is a fallacy of dominance that we hold onto in construction and it needs to be changed/challenged by events such as this.
