Rosi’s Birthday Fundraiser for flood victims in Central Vietnam

Dear kind friends around the world,

I have been back to my hometown Saigon since mid March and witnessing what the mother country is going through for the last 9 months, I wish to hold a birthday fundraiser and contribute a small part to help Vietnam recover from the worst natural disaster in history, on top of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since beginning of Oct 2020, Central Vietnam has been severely affected by 13 extreme weather conditions consecutive including tropical storms, typhoons, landslides, monsoon and tropical depressions. The region has been suffering badly with 357 deaths, 3.429 houses destroyed, 850 thousand houses damaged and a total financial loss of 35 trillion Vietnam Dong (over 2 billion Australian Dollar).

Central Vietnam is no stranger to devastating floods and typhoons. This year has been no exception but following directly on top of the difficulties many families are already experiencing with the impact of COVID 19 it makes life all the more difficult.

All of us the world over have been affected by COVID 19 this year in one way or another but can you imagine just for a minute what it would be like to face this type of devastation on top of everything else 2020 has thrown at us?

I am aiming to raise AU$2000 which is about 35 million VND. 100% the money raised will be donated to the poor families in Central Vietnam, $100 each family, for the following activities whichever they deem most necessary:

- Repairing and rebuilding homes

- Regenerating crops and providing livestock

- Buying food and basic necessities

- Getting the children back to school

- Preparing for Tet the Lunar New Year most important holiday in Vietnam

This year Tet will be in mid February. I plan to go to Quang Trach/Quang Tho/Binh Hai/Binh Son at end Jan or beginning Feb to personally bring the money to the people who need it most where cars and trucks could not reach to during the flooding. The fundraiser will end in a month and hopefully we could provide some help to the local people in the affected areas. My travel expenses will be covered with my own money.
