Background

Dear brothers and sisters, my name is Ronald Brampy. I was diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer in August 2015. As the cancer was inoperable, the doctors at NCCS started me on strong chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, some time between my chemo sessions in November 2015, I developed pneumonia and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. Shortly after discharge, I attended a radiotherapy mould-making session. The movement up and down the bed somehow affected my fragile spine and I could feel jolts of pain through my entire spine. I fought through the pain and returned home, only to find that I was completely unable to stand up. We had to rush down to the A&E and I was admitted to hospital again, where doctors discovered I had multiple slip discs throughout my spine. There is not much the doctors can do about my spine condition now, as their primary focus is on my ongoing cancer therapy. Due to this, I can only walk short distances, albeit with great pain and difficulty.

After undergoing these strongest doses of treatments, I underwent another CT scan, which found that the cancer spread to my adrenal glands! I have since been through many other chemotherapies which did not reap any good results. I now have metastases to my liver, in addition to the 2 large painful masses in my adrenal glands, masses in my lungs and lymph nodes. I am in constant pain which I cannot put into words, especially my abdomen, chest, spine and legs. I am experiencing side effects from my treatment as well as the painkillers and the cancer itself. My body is weak as my muscles are wasting away and I find I need lay down and rest more. This is very unlike the active person I used to be!

Recently, I began to cough up blood and was admitted to hospital again in March 2017. There is a last-line immunotherapy option, but it will cost an estimated SGD 5,000 per infusion every 2 weeks and another SGD 10,000 per infusion every 6 weeks. These are non-standard therapies which are not covered by insurance. Since I was retired from my job, I have no income now. My small family is doing everything they can to help me but we have exhausted all our finances. Hence, we are reaching out for a last line of hope.

Those who know me can attest to my bravery, helpfulness and kindness to all human beings and living creatures in need. During my lifetime, I even saved my coworkers from the brink of death. I am trying my best now to fight on, for the sake of my family, against all odds. I will be forever grateful and indebted to any one who can help me reduce my pain and stress caused by our financial situation. Thank you, earnestly.
