This is Romeo Miguel, a fresh graduate of AB Political Science, our future attorney; a dependable friend and an active youth leader. Romeo is full of hopes and dreams. He's been confined in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Medical City for weeks now, fighting an unknown auto-immune disease, surviving everyday to bring his sunny-warm smile back to his family and friends.

---

Hi. I'm Myron, Romeo's friend and his brother-in-faith. You and I can help ease Romeo’s hellish pain.

Last April 17th, Romeo was admitted to Medical City to get himself checked due to persistent fever. With low platelet count, the doctors did not allow him to go home.

He went through a series of tests afterwards to figure out if he is positive to Dengue. Good thing, he was negative to all tests.

His Internal Organs Are Failing

From the time he was confined until the 20th of April, Romeo complained about his stomach pain. It was discovered later on that a part of his large intestine was swollen. He then started bloating and his digestive system deteriorated.

In fact, one of his kidneys was already affected and damaged. At 2 in the morning, he needed to go through dialysis. But the damage in his kidneys set a domino effect on his internal organs.

Few hours after his dialysis, he was rushed to the ICU because he couldn’t breathe. The doctors found out that water started filling his lungs. This prevented him from breathing normally. Only with the aid of an oxygen tank was he able to breath.

We thought we would lost him... but God heard our prayers.

After that, Romeo went through several tests and procedures such as CT scan, ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy - to know the reason behind his sudden illness. Tubes were inserted in his mouth to help him breathe and his private organs to check his kidneys and colon.

The Initial Diagnosis

His family was called for a conference and the doctors discussed Romeo’s situation. They still can’t trace what his disease exactly is, all they know is that it’s an auto-immune disease where his body’s natural immune system attacks the healthy cells by mistake. This makes Romeo’s immune system weaker which in effect damages his internal organs.

We are waiting for his vital signs to get better before doing series of tests again. As much as we want to transfer him into a public hospital for cheaper expense, with his current state and per his doctors' advise, it will be very risky as other hospitals do not have the medical equipments needed and the doctors handling Romeo’s case are specialists.

We Need Your Help

On behalf of Romeo’s family, we are knocking on your heart's door to help Romeo and his family pay for the hospital bills as well as the medication and procedures needed for his recovery.

Romeo’s parents are senior citizens and without proper jobs. His brother works in a BPO company while his two sisters work as a clerk and a private school teacher. Combining their salaries wouldn’t even amount to 10% of the expected bill.

As of this writing, the running bill has ballooned to Php 1,500,000.00 ($30,000) and might go as high as Php 2,000,000 ($40,000). That’s still without the doctors’ professional fees. The team looking at Romeo's case is a pool of 10 specialist doctors.

Romeo’s family has already exhausted the possible options. They have reached out to PCSO (Philippine Charity & Sweepstakes Office) but were only given Php 30,000 (approx. $600); as well as assistance from public officials but all they got was a rejection slip.

Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and will be put to pay for Romeo’s medication and hospital bills.
