Hello everyone! I am Jasmin Claire S. Malate, a graduating student from Bicol University, daughter of Roderick Malate who was diagnosed to have a stage 4 lung cancer.
Last May 2017, my father was confined at AGO Medical Center due to Pleural fluid also known as "tubig sa baga". He had his biopsy and the result showed that he had Stage 4 lung cancer. We were shocked and saddened by what the doctor had said. We were not expecting it because he looks physically fit and healthy. We sought a second medical opinion at St. Luke's Medical Center which confirmed that he was indeed afflicted with lung cancer. It was the worst news I have ever received in my entire life. We are not rich, and we cannot afford those costly medicines but still, we remain positive and prayed for God's guidance and healing power.
The doctor advised him to have his chemotherapy. On June 2017, he started his chemotherapy at Chinese General Hospital and continued the treatment in Legazpi City. That time I know that he is fighting. I can see in his eyes that he is ready to conquer this challenge. He is a brave man and I have no doubt about it.
In the process of his medication, he also had pigtail connected to his left lung to extract and remove all fluids in his lungs. He suffers much and cannot sleep soundly because of the pigtail. The sleep deprivation is another cross for him to carry. It pains me deeply to see my father bear all these suffering.
My father was compelled to quit his job as a salesman in a private company due to his illness. His frequent absences and physical weakness could not allow him to perform his job functions. As the breadwinner in our family, quitting his job was a life-changing decision. Coming from a middle-income family, it was harder for us to find other resources for his costly medication. Furthermore, my sister and I are still studying while my mother is a plain housewife.
We also sought help from PSCO for his medication, but still, it is not sufficient to sustain his long-term medication. We feel bad about it and I really can't help but cry every night thinking that my father is in such a bad condition. We want to go the full stretch in this battle against the Big C but we do not have the sufficient resources for it.
His medication costs P150,000.00 for one session which needs to be undertaken every 21 days. He was able to finish 12 sessions of chemotherapy over a period of one year until July 2018.We could not have done it without the help of our relatives, friends and his batchmates. I am truly grateful because that year-long treatment prolonged the life of my father. The chemotherapy was able to reduce the size of the tumor in his lungs.
However, due to the lack of financial resources, we were unable to continue with chemotherapy sessions. Consequently, the tumor has started to grow back in size.We have tried alternative medicines, but they didn't work. We have exerted our full efforts to provide money, but it was insufficient to sustain his medications. We are therefore appealing to everyone for help to save the life of my father.
Now, he is suffering from different kinds of body pain due to lack of medication. He badly needs to resume chemotherapy as soon as possible. Seeing him in deep pain breaks my heart. As a daughter, I want my father to live longer. I have so many plans with my family and I want them to be by our side through our adult years.
His life is precious to us and we are willing to do whatever it takes just to save his life. I've decided to create this fund-raising campaign for my dad to help him live longer before it’s too late. I plead for your mercy and compassion.Heart and Hands together, let us save Roderick’s life.
And most importantly, I hope you can say a little prayer for him
Thank you so much and God bless!
As of March 5, 2019 (Update)
My Dad is in Manila right now for his full brain radiation. He had his CT-scan last Feb. 26, 2019 here in Legazpi and it was found out that the brain metastasis (cancer cells) were now expanding to his brain.
The doctors have decided to have his radiation at the Chinese General Hospital in order to have his brain be spared from the cancer cells. With all your help, we are able to cover his medical expenses. Thank you so much everyone for your prayers, support and help for my Dad! ❤️ We are still fighting against his Cancer and your assistance have helped us to be stronger.
