My family and I are planning to take a sabbatical from work and travel the country to spread awareness about Plastic usage. Our main message is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
We currently live in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of the southern state of Kerala. This city is still young and has few issues in terms of population, infrastructure, plastic usage and garbage disposal. Most citizens dump food and biodegradable waste in a pit and usually burn other garbage. Recycling happens on a very low scale. Most shops which buy old newspaper and other recyclable material don't accept glass products.
Living here we have realized that there are many cities in India which will face the same issues such as improper garbage disposal, ground water pollution, smog etc, faced by other metro cities soon or in the near future. One thing we have come to understand is that there need to be more awareness among the citizens about the effects of burning plastic, dumping garbage in the open and unnecessary wastage.
We do not want to point fingers at anyone, just increase awareness and understanding so that the future generations have a better chance of improving their quality of life. Hence we have decided to travel to other tier 2 cities in as many states as possible to increase awareness about recycling what they can and highlight better ways of garbage disposal and discourage plastic usage to a certain extent.
We thank you in advance for your contribution.
