Hi! I'm Jam. I want to pursue my Masters degree, BUT I want to do more than that.
I made this video to help you understand why this is such a huge opportunity.
I believe that creativity and design is capable to serve a greater purpose than just aesthetics or simply “art expression.” When I took up Visual Communication in the University of the Philippines, my intention was to produce work that would trigger thought, challenge mindsets, and inspire action, not just in the university, but also in bigger communities.
Most of my undergraduate and professional experience the past years were focused on graphic design, while I used pockets of my time to volunteer for a few organizations that promote social relevance. While I learned a lot the past years — stretched in character, in leadership, and in skill, I think that it’s just a training ground for the greater things up ahead.
Now, I’ve decided to dedicate my life towards this long burning vision of using visual media to create positive change. I want to take this time to study, be exposed, and learn more about sustainability, innovation, social development, and how design and multimedia can be used as an agent of change.
In my search for universities, I stumbled upon Instituto Europeo di Design located in Madrid, Spain.
Initially, I planned to go to Instituto Empresa but I cannot meet it's financial requirements by October 2018. After considering all factors, I've decided to go to IED, giving me more time to raise funds. The program in IED also has a sustainability module (integrating sustainability in design) which I believe would equip me to help more people after I graduate.
Though I am celebrating this milestone, getting admitted is just one part of the journey — raising the funds to study is another.
I found gathering funds for the program really challenging. Though I am working extra hard to earn more from my projects, seeking for scholarships and grants, without external support, it’s impossible for me to study in IED.
The place reservation and tuition fee alone would cost a total of $26,350 while I’ll also need to raise funds for day to day expenses
Looking at those numbers initially felt discouraging as I considered my family’s financial capability. Thoughts of how unfair it seems if I miss out on great educational opportunities simply because of financial constraints entered my mind.
I know that a visual tool has more power to bring about positive change than we know now, and I believe that pursuing Master of Communication Design Labs in Instituto Europeo di Design would help me achieve that.
Throughout the past months, we've been thinking of ways to get funds.
Aside from working extra hard to get projects, I've decided to have a bake sale!
