Studying to Save Lives : RN in Progress and Needs Your Support!

My Journey

I am a first-generation university student currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have known from a tender age that I wanted to make a difference. I didn't know what field I would get into but, I wanted to be able to help people. I spent three years working and discovering my calling - it finally came to me during the course of last year.

The Covid -19 pandemic began trekking its way through the world - one country at a time, nurses were pulled out from all corners of the earth to stem the virus's tirade, meanwhile I, in my little corner of the Caribbean, worked along with younger children tutoring online and in-person when I could.

Turning Point

I really thought I was destined to teach, I loved working along with students and at one point thought I would go on to study in order to teach in a Montessori School! Life can be quite unpredictable and everywhere I turned health seminars and workshops kept crossing my path, the touching stories of great nurses reached my ears and in turn worked on me! Nurses in the last year had made the world on a whole aware of how much they give, how much they touch lives, and how they help heal the body and soul. I was quite inspired and at that point, I decided that being an RN (Registered Nurse) would give me that great opportunity. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than me. I volunteered at the General Hospital in my country and the experience further strengthened my resolve. I am going to become a Nurse.

Small hiccups

I was able to gain a partial scholarship and have been working part-time however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and my heavy course load I am unable to work to sustain my basic school expenses as needed, as of last week my laptop crashed and while I was fortunate to get a loaner, I would have to return it at some point. As I am doing online classes it's pertinent to have a computer and therefore without one I am at a disadvantage and may have to defer my next semester.
