We're making the jump into solar and rain catchment at Rising Pheasant Farms! Our farm was conceived back in 2009 as a model of low-resource, ecologically-based, small-scale urban agriculture. We have striven to uphold those values for the past 10 years and have enjoyed so much love and support from our Detroit community, who also believe that we can grow and eat better. Whether its delivering our produce without fossil fuels, using hand tillage for our soil or growing in a beyond "Organic" method, the Earth and ALL her inhabitants have been at the forefront of our business motivations and decisions. We are asking our community now to help support furthering that dream by installing a metal roof for a rain catchment system and solar panels to completely power our farm operations with alternative energy.
We will be working with Strawberry Solar based right here in Detroit and a Detroit-based contractor for the roofing work. Keeping our money in Detroit is a high priority for our business. The cost of the project is $25,320 for the solar installation and $20,000 for a metal roof and gutters for rain catchment.
In celebration of our 10 years as a business in Detroit and making this jump into solar and water catchment, we'll be hosting a open-house on Sunday September 29th! All donors, regardless of investment level, can consider themselves invited to this event.
