Now in its 3rd incredible year, Ride 4 Kids is a 6 day bike ride covering around 600 - 700kms aimed at raising funds to change lives.

Supporting three local charities, 20 riders from the Phuket community (including yours truly) will join as a combined team in May 2019 to cycle from Phuket out to a far off province in mainland Thailand and back in less than a week.

This will be my first year joining the group and I'd love your help in ensuring this is their best year yet!

In June 2018, the campaign raised over 1.5 million Thai Baht which equates to around $50,000 USD.

For my part I would be so very grateful and appreciative if you would sponsor me just $10 to help me reach my goal of adding $3000 USD to the pot. (Please note $10 is just a guide price, feel free to leave more if you're so inclined!)

Now, I realise I look like a natural athlete (see video above - winking eye furiously) ;) But don't be fooled, I haven't been on a bike since my mid 20's, so 700km's plus all the training etc is no mean feat! So please help me make it incredibly worthwhile and donate just $10 today!

Through the help from volunteers and sponsors, The Good Shepherd Sisters of Phuket directly help marginalized women and children, and their families to empower, enhance dignity, support self-sufficiency, and build esteem from those excluded from the benefits of society.

They impact the daily lives of these less fortunate individuals, some who have been subject to human trafficking. Key projects include:

BanYa Literacy Center – Vocational Training Center, Patong
Migrate Worker Outreach Program - Home for Hope
Seeds of Change Sewing Center
Good Shepherd Second Hand and Craft Shop

HOW CAN WE HELP?

Funds raised through this endeavor will assist in supporting some 150 Burmese children who attend the BanYa Literacy Center. Through grants and donations, these students will be moving into a dedicated 8 room learning facility September 2016. Average cost to support each child registered at the center runs about 10,000 baht per annum.

The children are taught English, Thai, Math, Social Studies, Dance, History, Science and Burmese.

Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation works to improve the economic opportunities and life chances of young people by funding and implementing high quality, practical English language education in government schools on Phuket Island.

The Foundation creates vocational opportunities by developing English skills both through formal education as well as after school and non curricula activities. The Foundation teaches English to over 1000 children in three Government schools; employing qualified, fluent English-speaking teachers to provide the best possible English language education on Phuket.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

Simple - if we raise 500k it will sponsor a teacher for 1 year. All their salaries, visa, work permit etc. Each of their English teachers creates a comfortable and exciting environment for their students to learn. They are responsible for developing their own lesson plans and teaching materials, as well as participating in extra-curricular activities with the residential students at Kamala school.

Our current project is the improvement of the Khok Wat Mai Primary School in Thalang District. Through no fault of its own, the school does not receive the funding it needs and deserves. The ninety students come largely from broken families or from families that have moved from the poorer provinces of Thailand in search of better opportunities in Phuket.

In 2016, with the support of guests and staff improvement works were carried out to the school’s library, canteen, sports field, playground and nursery. We have also worked with the teachers and students at the school assisting with sports events, coaching and English reading days.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

Funds raised from Ride4Kids will support our 2018 building improvement goals for the primary school which include the renovation of the existing toilets which are in very poor state, plus the addition of a new toilet block. We would also like to install three covered walkways, so the children can stay dry while moving around the school in rainy season.
