Campaign Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraiser page! Anything you can contribute helps, no matter how small!
Ruffles, The Wobbly Yorkie
Ruffles was born with an atlantoaxial subluxation between her first and second cervical vertebrae. In layman's terms, this means there is a separation between the bones in her neck which is causing her to be unstable. For those who've met her, you would recognize the effects of this: she has a very funny-looking walk and a tendency to fall over with the slightest motivation. In spite of her disability, Ruffles is an extremely playful and active little dog.
Trouble for Ruffles
Ruffles has recently suffered an injury to her neck which fractured her C1 vertebrae. Because the gap in her neck bones is between this fractured bone and the next, it has caused her some serious neurological harm. The injury could have paralyzed her, but miraculously she has retained movement in her legs; however, she cannot support herself. The surgeon who examined Ruffles suggested she undergo extensive surgery to stablize her subluxation which would cost $3000-4000. She is currently in a neck splint for 8 weeks, which we hope will help her fracture heal without surgery.
Save the Pup!
Ruffles means the world to my mom and our whole family. The surgeon said the best-case scenario that we can hope for with the splint would be for Ruffles to return to her wobbly-legged self. She will remain vulnerable to future injury and possible paralysis as long as the subluxation isn't stablized, but our family cannot afford the surgery. Please help us give Ruffles the normal life she deserves!
