Returning to the Farm

Farming is a great job once you've learned the connection with nature. We wait for the plants to grow to give nourishment, earn a living for the family and provide food on the table for others. Beyond farming, visitors become a part of the cycle even for a day and gives a new insight about farming.

We started the farm, "Sa Bakod Ni Orang," last March 2016. The farm had produced different vegetable crops (eggplants, string beans, cucumber, etc.) Planted fruit trees for the future made possible with the help of donors for the seedlings. Now we have 3 families working together to plant and harvest the crop.

The farm workers are not being paid for their daily work. They are partners in the farm thus getting a profit. They have years of experience at the farm. They love to toil the soil as if its their own because of the good relationship with the landowner (likes sharing the bounty with the farmers).

It is not enough to just grow the crops and we need to expand that relationship with other farmers of the community. The farm needs a shed for the tools and protect the crops during calamities. Renting is tools expensive sometimes unfair for the poor farmer. Vegetables needs a small nursery and clean source of water to produce better crops. We would also teach how to create handicrafts (a lost art) and educate the families in order to earn extra income during the waiting period. This would open the eyes from our regular visitors and promote farming.

Can it be done? Yes as its been 3 years and we would like to continue the good relationship through working at the farm hand in hand. These is not an idea but a system to create awareness and continue the harvest. We need your help thru funding the shed, tools and nursery. Visiting the farm life a day really makes a difference.
