A restorative process is any process in which the victim and the offender, and where appropriate, any other individual, or community members affected by a crime, participate together actively in the resolution of matters arising from the crime, generally with the help of a facilitator. This kind of justice is a unique method of problem-solving that involves not only victims and perpetrators but the broader community and all who are involved or affected by the crime. It is based on the fundamental principle that criminal behaviour not only violates the law, but also injured victims as well as the broader community. Our restorative justice programs are a response to crime that respects the dignity and equality of each person, builds understanding and promotes social harmony, through the healing of victims, offenders and communities. We aim to help mothers and family members of perpetrators find healing, and reunification in restoration. We help the victims of violence come to know trauma relief through therapy, social support, peacebuilding practices and mindfulness techniques.

OBJECTIVES:

Get offenders to:

  • Take responsibility for their actions
  • Understand the harm they have caused
  • Opportunity to redeem themselves
  • To be discouraged from causing further harm
  • Be reintegrated into society through restoration

Victims:

  • Sense of healing
  • Allowing them to see offenders to take responsibility for the crime
  • Solve the consequences experienced from crime
  • Led towards a sense of/process of forgiveness
  • Reduce Post Traumatic Stress symptoms experienced as a result of the crime
  • Reduce desire for violent revenge against offender
  • Provides victim with satisfaction in justice
