ResCute Operation's intent is straightforward: since we're on lockdown and with barbershops closed, frontliners have to contend with irritating long hair under their PPE suits and hair caps. On the other end, there a lot of displaced stylists and barbers who do not have a source of income, again because barbershops and salons are closed. While simple in theory, we hope that through ResCute Operation we get to address these two different needs from two different sectors.
ResCute Operation is the only non-profit, independently-run haircutting initiative during the pandemic providing haircuts to frontliners at no cost while providing income to displaced barbers, stylists, and seamstresses of Payatas in the midst of the lockdown.
We are also the only haircutting initiative whose health and safety protocols have been given permits by hospitals, reviewed by infection control teams, observed by the IATF, and endorsed by the Office of the Vice President.
We've made major strides. Allow me to share with you the numbers (as of May 22, 2020):
- 29: Days that we've been in operation
- 22: Days since our first run
- 13: Runs in total
- 1000+: Frontliners provided haircuts
- 13: displaced stylists and barbers provided income
- 30: mananahis in Payatas provided income
While we've enjoyed media mileage and have formed various partnerships, our operations remain to be propped up by donations from private individuals. However, donations have dwindled yet the lifting of the lockdown still seems a distant reality.
It is our hope that you help us forge on so we may continue helping three sectors - frontliners, displaced barbers and stylists, and seamstresses - in one go amid these trying times.
