I'm Zarret. I'm in matric (grade 12) and I'm on a full academic scholarship at St Stithians Boys' College. I'm half Hungarian, but I was born in South Africa, where I currently live. I have been rowing for the past 5 years, and this year, I was selected for the Junior National training squad. After racing the selection regatta at the end of May, my crew and I were selected to represent South Africa at the Junior World Rowing Championships to be held in Bulgaria in early August.

We have been training tirelessly for the past 5 months to give us the best possible chance against international crews. We usually do about 10 sessions per week, and we have had 2 camps during which we rowed dozens of kilometres. We do combinations of water training, gym, runs and ergo (rowing machine) sessions.

This is the culmination of our efforts and the pinnacle of our rowing careers, and I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to represent my home country, while also visiting one of the neighbours of my mom's home country. However, my family is unable to pay the expenses associated with the tour to Bulgaria, which are especially serious because of Covid-19. Therefore, I humbly ask for any assistance in helping me pay for the tour. Like many families, mine has come upon tough times during the pandemic. As I mentioned, I am on a full scholarship, and I likely wouldn't be in school if it weren't for the Student Sponsorship Programme. Therefore, in order to participate at World Championships, I will need help in paying the expenses.

The estimated cost of the tour is R95 000, which excludes the kit and any spending money (the spending money obviously being a luxury). The kit will cost roughly R3600, but this excludes the trisuit (rowing attire) and the green SA blazer. Therefore, I am asking for R110000, so that I will be able to cover all the costs and hopefully have some spending money. I also need to consider the fees for this platform, which I have included in my goal amount.

Thank you for your support :)
