Campaign Story
Hello!
I have started this fundraiser for you to help me achieve my Gold Duke Of Edinburgh residential goal. Once completing this section I will be one step closer to achieving this award.
This July for my residential section of my gold DofE I will be taking part in a 4 week long renovation programme, taking place in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka. This programme is run by Plan My Gap Year Foundation who are a UK registered charity. It has been set up in order to help with financial aid and assistance around the world. PMGY is also a DofE approved activity provider for the residential section I wish to complete and are giving guidance and support every step of the way in this project.
This is an amazing opportunity to jump feet first into a new experienced and culture. I will be helping renovate one of a wide range of their communities builds such as; Schools, government hospitals, childrens homes or the local Buddhist temples.
During my time in Ambalangoda I will be put into a group of people just like me and tasked to come up with a target to meet for the end of our trip. Then working together to achieve our target to the best of our abilities. This gives me the opportunity to get stuck in with a hands-on project, in a new country. I will also be taught about the local community and Buddhism as well as the daily life of a monk. This opportunity will show me what it is truly like to be apart of over 70% of the Ambalangoda's population following this ancient philosophy.
At the weekends I will have the opportunity to go out with my group and sight see some of the amazing safari parks and get wo interact with the local elephants. This summer will be a summer to remember. Once completed I will make a video montage full of all the work I achieved, the friends I make and memories that will stay with me forever. For you to see what you have been kind enough to help achieve.
The money raised will be enough for the cost of my flights,visa, travel insurance and all inclusive programme fee.
