What Happened?

On the 21st of April 2019, on Easter Sunday, while many gathered to celebrate the risen Lord, there were many targeted attacks on civilians who were celebrating Easter Sunday with their families and communities. This again created tension and unrest in the hearts and minds of all Sri Lankans while over 359 people lost their lives and over 500 were injured.

The bomb blasts in churches:

St Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade – A Roman Catholic church which is one of the places we used to visit as children for special blessings and has a history of over 180 years dating back to the 1800s.

St Sebastian’s Church, Negombo – A Roman Catholic church where many faithful gather on a daily basis as it is situated in a strong Catholic community in the country. This church dates back to the mid-1900s.

St Zion’s Church in Batticaloa – A church which is home to many Tamil brothers and sisters which was founded in 1974.

Also, there had been 3 more bombings in 3 major hotels in Colombo: Cinnamon Grande, Shang-ri La and Kingsbury hotels which affected tourists visiting Sri Lanka and civilians enjoying an Easter breakfast with family and friends. This is also a hit on the tourism industry which was rebuilding after the end of the 3 decades of civil war.

There were 3 more reported bomb blasts: one at the Dehiwala Zoo and 2 at an apartment complex in Dematagoda.

Who am I?

My name is Dinusha, I lived in Sri Lanka. I felt i didn't want history to repeat itself and decided to make a gogetfunding in the moment. When the tragic event took place I felt the urge to do something about it because it's the home I love and cherish, my heart yearns for my family and friends affected.

Relief Fund

All funds raised, except any processing fees, will be donated directly to the victims of the bombing to help support people affected. To provide general help and support to the families of the victims after this terrible crime.

The target is set to $10000, hoping to exceed this goal and distribute funds among the casualties needing support.

The sooner we raise funds the faster we can support the victims affected by the devastating event.

Dispersing Funds

I will be contacting and working with close local authorities to make sure funds are allocated to victims and families.i will go there myself and make sure the funds are distributed fairly and kept track of.

I will be withdrawing the funds once we have reached the goal to assist Sri Lankans who have lost their loved ones, children who have lost parents and spouses who cant support themselves because of losing there significant others

Thank you to everyone who reached out to help, for For any questions contact me directly [email protected]
