Campaign Story
In March 2018 the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, reported a staggering 2.2 million IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) in Nigeria. This number has unfortunately grown, due to the persistence of terrorist attacks and mass killings. Nigeria has been plagued with a series of violent crises from various sources for over a decade. The violence has uprooted entire villages, torn families apart, and left people in a state of a shock with few places to seek refuge.
IDPs in the various campsites are subject to poor hygienic conditions, food scarcity, sexual violence, and more while trying to survive after an already traumatic catastrophe. The collapse of the sense of dignity and purpose is one of the many disheartening consequences of the conflict. With funds raised, we hope to empower the displaced through the development of trauma relief programs to help return a sense of normalcy. We believe it is an imperative first step to aid them in regaining control of their lives.
With the funds raised, we want to support programs that provide the necessary resources to assess, treat, and monitor the mental health state of IDPs in the camps through our partnership with Mr. Ameh Zion, president of Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative (MHEI) and Pst. Esther Ibanga, founder of the internationally recognized, Women Without Walls Initiative (WOWWI).
