St.Angelina Community Health and Rehabilitation Centre (SACHARC) is based in Namisindwa district in Eastern Uganda.Through the various campaigns and programs we've been implementing especially in addressing the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls at risk of dropping out of school and failing to transit to their next level of education.
We were shocked during the survey to select the beneficiaries for the above project of vulnerable girls at risk of dropping out of school that we came across the many adolescent girls aged between 12-16 years that were sexually abused and were already teen moms or pregnant and had been forced into child marriages.
We have so identified 96 of the above category of girls but 8 teen moms who are destitute girls aged between 12-16 years have been withdrawn from marriages and have accepted to rejoin school. All these girls dropped off before completing primary level. We have therefore secured a school for them and are to join primary six to prepare them for primary seven next year. Our hope is for them to complete Primary Certificate so that they join any vocational training school for skills that can help them with their babies because the men that abused them run off across the neighboring country-Kenya.
Why SACHARC got interest to seek for help for these eight (8) girls is because they were the brightest students according to their previous reports before elopement and sexual abuse which led to their school drop out.Secondly all the six girls are total orphans that lost their parents at their young age before 5 years and were left under the care their grand parents that could not have proper guidance to them due to illiteracy and poverty.
This fundraising campaign for the eight vulnerable moms desirous of joining school is to fund raise for their tuition fees for the two remaining terms and next years three terms, procurement of scholastic materials, uniform, bedding materials and payment of their babies caretaker who will be at the SACHARC rehabilitation centre. This success of this fundraising is to put in place every resource that is needed for their sustainable continual education without a hitch through next year as this also enables us to programatically plan for them as we find means of allocating them to homes that will be responsible for them.
The total budget is USD $ 7,315 to successfully enable them complete Primary leaving Certificate next year.We are trying to make this a top priority by having all the resources needed by end of June 2020 to prepare them for the inclusion into the school second term program.Another option is to leave the fundraising open such that in case we do not realize the funds by the set timeline then whatever the good Samaritans have raised to this cause can cater for some as we wait for further donations.Alluded to this is the Covid-19 pandemic serge where as a precautionary measure by government schools have been suspended for now and we don't know how long this would take but we have to have these resources ready for this vulnerable girls as soon as school resumes.
We are very grateful for every donation made to this cause and we assure you that SACHARC will ensure to offer an appreciation note to every donation and reward for those willing to avail us their details.
