Dear beloved Benefactors,

Heartfelt greetings from India!

I am John Kumar, Founder and President of “Love in Action Ministries” which is situated in the province of East Godavari in the state of Andhra Pradesh in South India. It is with immense pleasure, I herewith submitting this Leprosy Care Project for your lenient consideration and benignant ratification of all possible free and gratuitous assistance. This project’s aim is to rehabilitate and sustain the leprosy sufferers and their non-afflicted children by providing free rations, clothing, blankets, medications, schooling, educational supplies and other essentials along with the financial resources needed to treat the vision aliments.

In 2016, couple of persons who have contracted Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy), approached me for the alms, I have spent some time in talking to them, they broke down into tears and told me about their pain in their hearts and the afflictions of the people in their leper colony. Encouraged by my kindness, they asked me to visit their fellow lepers in their quarantined colony. Moved by compassion, I happened to visit their leper colony to ascertain the plight and needs of these most unfortunate brothers and sisters. I was privileged to be able to meet them and be welcomed by them wholeheartedly. I have seen their woeful and broken lives and recognised that they needed to see the love of Jesus in action. I have firmly determined to serve these lowest of the low people in the most authentic and tangible way. “Jesus Himself gave us the example when He touched and healed a man suffering from this terrible disease.” (Matthew 8:2-3)

The pastoral visit resulted in adopting their colony with about 55 leprosy victims and their 36 non-afflicted children. The volunteers from our ministry and myself visits the leprosy patients twice a week to continually assess their needs and oversee the smooth running of the services and rehabilitation programmes providing through this Project. Regular medical camps are being organised for clean and tie their wounds and other general aliments. As you have seen in the pictures, as the Lord provides, we are occasionally distributing free Ration Kits, which consists of 5 kilos rice, 1 litre edible oil, 1 kilo Split Pigeon Peas and 2 detergent and bath soap bars to each of the leprosy victims. But these provisions are very inadequate for them to maintain with throughout the month. With Christ’s compassion we exert every effort, strive hard and committed to serve these neediest of the needy lepers and their non-afflicted children to improve their lives and restore hope in every way attainable to us.

One of the more pronounced effects of the disease is the onslaught of severe cataracts that can often result in blindness. In this context, your sympathetic concern and generous succour is humbly solicited to pay for the leprosy victims to undergo cataract surgery at the local hospital to restore their sight while offering hope for a better tomorrow. The average cost of the cataract surgery is USD $100 only. The patients will be treated, provided needed prescriptions, given eyeglasses at no cost, which will make it possible for those who afflicted with leprosy to regain their sight, return to a more normal life and provide for their dependents.
