Refugee Rock

Refugee Rock is a music event to raise money to provide shelter, food and aid to homeless migrants in Calais and Northern France.

It’s taking place at the Borderline in London on Sunday 1st November 2015. Any money we raise – on this fundraising page and from ticket sales to the event – will be donated to Worldwide Tribe in Calais.

We’ve chosen to put on a punk rock show as a way of raising money because it’s the music we love and it has a DIY ethos that has long been associated with progressive causes for change. We hope that those of you who share this love of punk rock and DIY culture will not only attend the event to see a bunch of great bands for a very low ticket price of £15, but will also be moved to donate some of your hard-earned cash to help people in need. We hope that those of you that don't have an interest in the event - or those of you who can't attend - will simply donate money on this page.

There's more information in the FAQs below about our fundraising efforts, how the money raised will be spent, and the Refugee Rock event. You can also find more information on our website: http://refugeerock.com/

*NOTE ABOUT DONATING: Unfortunately, the donation process on this site is confusing. To clarify - you don't need to donate using PayPal. When you go through the donation process, a mini window will pop up to connect you to PayPal. If you'd rather not donate with PayPal, simply click 'Buy as guest' at the bottom of the mini window, and this will take you through the standard online donation process, prompting you to enter an address and bank details. Please also note that the donation will be made to 'Mark McCafferty'. We recognise that this seems a little unprofessional - we're not a registered charity and don't have a registered bank account. However, we can assure you that ALL the funds you donate will go to Worldwide Tribe in Calais, as we have promised.

Why are you raising funds?

There are two reasons why we’re raising money:

  • The migrants and refugees in the camps can’t legally work in Europe, and therefore they can’t provide for themselves and their families
  • We disagree with the UK government’s deterrence policy and don’t believe it is sustainable in the long-term

How will you spend the money you raise?

We’re keeping our costs for the event as low as we possibly can – the Borderline have kindly agreed to waive their venue fee, and all bands will perform for free. All of our team who are doing the admin work for the event, from building the website to contacting bands, are doing it in their spare time for free.

There will, of course, be a few costs – we will contribute to band travel costs, and provide some basic fare (simple food and non-alcoholic drinks) for bands. These costs will be covered out of the proceeds we raise on our fundraising page.

Once costs have been covered, the remaining proceeds from donations to our fundraising page and all proceeds from ticket sales on the door will be donated to Worldwide Tribe in Calais.

How will the money get to Calais?

We are donating the proceeds to Worldwide Tribe in Calais, a group that have people in Calais who are giving out clothes, tents, food and other essential items that will be needed to survive the winter in Calais. We also hope to visit the camps ourselves and do some work on the ground too.

Who is performing at Refugee Rock?

Confirmed bands are - USA Nails, Mothlite, Twin Graves, Mower, and Scandinavia.

We have VERY special guest headliners to announce very soon!
