THE RED ARMY OF SOUTH SUDAN

The Red Army are the young people who fled their villages and schools to join the SPLM/A liberation struggle for freedom of the people of South Sudan because of the devastating effects of the war that destroyed their villages and people. These young people were brought up by the SPLM/A, during the liberation struggle, to carry forward the vision, principles and ideology of the SPLM/A Revolution. Red Army was the name given by SPLM/A to these young people who demonstrated the spirit of patriotism for their country and made unique sacrifices at a tender age, for the freedom of its people.

The SPLM/A leadership under the Late Dr. John Garang De Mabior considered these young people the “seeds of the nation” and those who were below 18 years were organized into different groups and provided education and basic needs of life. Some of the Red Army were supported and facilitated by the SPLM/A to travel abroad and further their education. The Red Army who found educational opportunities outside South Sudan also played a key role in soliciting support from the international community to arise to the cause of South Sudan, and particularly, the efforts of the lost boys and girls of South Sudan in Diaspora are specially recognized and appreciated. As a matter of fact, many have returned to offer their skills and render services to the people of South Sudan and contribute to the nation building process, especially those who have mobilized resources and established developmental projects for their communities.

The members of the Red Army Foundation, having emerged from the background of the SPLM/A are therefore circumstantially considered War Veterans and hold in high esteem and with deep respect the SPLM/A Leadership, for the support rendered, the nurturing provided, and the historical opportunity accorded to us to serve the people of South Sudan. In this regard, special appreciation is accorded to our leader and hero, the Late Dr. John Garang De Mabior, Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, William Nyuon Bany, H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit and our formal zonal commanders; H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, H.E. Dr. James Wani Igga, Hon. Daniel Awet Akot, Hon. Kuol Manyang Juuk and other leaders who played a significant role in the upbringing of the Red Army, including all former Red Army commanders, camp managers, teachers, caretakers and Red Army leaders.

In consideration of this unquestionably patriotic background, participation, sacrifice and contribution to the Liberation struggle for freedom, the Red Army of South Sudan are regarded as the true custodians of the SPLM/A vision and the born k2marrow of the SPLM/SPLA, being first born sons of the Liberation Struggle and widely considered as the hope for the nation.

ABOUT THE RED ARMY FOUNDATION
