My name is Oliver Thomas, a youth and citizen of Mauritius.
After seeing how we are destroying the island and its ocean by throwing plastic waste, I decided to conduct a social experiement by going on the road of the capital. (Check the video to see the experiment).
The island is well known for its white, sandy beaches and its turquoise lagoon, mixed with the hospitality of the mauritian. Unfortunately, how contrasting it can between the hospitality of the residents compared as to the way they treat their island.
I wanted to change things, and to get the people involved in the preservation of our country. "How would that be possible, I asked myself." The first step would start by myself, that was my answer.
On the internet, I saw a machine, a plastic pelletizer. How it works? The machine crush the plastic, so that you can then use it in different aspect such a road building. (check out this website for more info about the machine. )
The aim is to buy, multiple of this machine, place them around the island with collection centres around it. Thus, it will help in the recycling process, provide employment for the machine operator, and we will also provide education to people of the locality, together with sport events.
I though, that it could be a great idea, to introduce this machine in Mauritius. However, after looking at the price of it, it seemed way too expensive. I then have the idea of getting a fundraising.
And to rase awareness, I used a social experiment on Facebook, and youtube.
