Recovery Month

In honor of national recovery month I am raising money for people struggling with the disease of addiction that need help. As a person in recovery I know just how hard living with this disease can be. It is not a choice or something only weak-willed people have. Everyday I walk into the rooms of recovery and see doctors, laywers, young, old, beautiful and amazing people. People like some of your favorite actors and musicians, teachers or neighbors, to even a former president suffer from addiction and are in recovery. It is a disease of the brain that causes the body to react differently than normal people to a substance (It's ok we call ya'll "the normal people too" ) :). It can progress so that the brain tells the body that it needs the substance in order to survive. This is where cravings and withdrawn come in, and it is no longer a choice at all for the sufferer. If they can get the substance their brain tells them to get it and get it now! This is where a person needs medical and perfessional help. Only millions of people can't afford the help they need. A treatment center is a great place for someone to be removed from the substance for a good amount of time and so that they are safely detoxed. Their brains can then begin to heal. It is a life long recovery that the addict must take responsibilty for in order to maintain it, but getting a person that wants and needs the help to get started in recovery is my mission. Please do some research on addiction if you know someone in recovery, or just want to have a better understand for a disease that kills someone every 10 seconds. If you are able to donate I am going to give 50% of what I raise to a woman I know that is ready and in need of a treatment program, the other 50% to different recovery programs each week for 4 weeks.
