This fundraising page is to raise money for Reykjavik Mosque due to some reconstruction that are needed to be done, by donating to "Muslim Association in Iceland".
The project we will be supporting:
After 18 years of service in this mosque, some interventions need to be made to reconstruct and arrange mosque facilities.
Some of these arrangements are:
- Changing mosque carpets. (The old one need to be removed all, because its quality was not so good, and it has been used for 18 years.)
- Wall Arrangements. (Painting walls and we have to fix walls of the kitchen.)
- Adjusting the classroom where we are teaching kids. (Some new school desks are needed to complete the class for teaching.)
- Changing the kitchen of the mosque. (The kitchen need to be changed all, and we have to arrange it as a kitchen + classroom so we can make meetings of the mosque's board and lessons for the kids who are attending on Saturday school at the mosque.
The carpet that we must order for the mosque has an area of 150 square meters which constitutes the biggest cost of this amount we are trying to collect, and we must order it from outside of Iceland in the absence of carpet processing factories here in the Iceland.
I must point out that the labor costs in Iceland are very expensive, so we must collect at least € 15000 to complete all the reconstruction of Reykjavik Mosque.
The Reykjavík Mosque (Icelandic: Moskan í Reykjavík Arabic: Masjid an-nuur - The Mosque of the Light) is a mosque and gathering area for Muslims in Iceland. It is located in the Ármúli 38 district. The mosque was opened in 2002 by the Muslim Association of Iceland after requesting the city government for permission to build a purpose-built mosque in 2000, with no swift response.
It offers Friday prayers every week and it is also open for all other prayers during the day from Fajr to Isha. In January 2009, a new wooden altar was built by members of the association. On Saturdays, there are Quran lessons for kids of different ages. There are also meetings for different subjects of Muslims in Iceland.
The Muslim Association of Iceland was established in 1997. The Muslim population of Iceland is almost 2000 with many different national backgrounds. Muslim community of Iceland is based on peace, unity and love; a community based on Muslims from all around the world: Arabs, Bosnians, Malaysians, Icelanders, Danes, Turks, Swedes, Albanians, Kurds, Somalis, Norwegians, Senegalese, Chinese, Tanzanian, German. And thanks God we right now have a beautiful association with over 500 members from over 100 different countries with no majorities.
Activities of the Association concentrated on reflecting the positive and right image of Islam and Muslims to the Icelandic society through different conferences and presentations and through various dialogue programs.
The association works hard on strengthen the ties with the public sphere of Iceland on the basis of mutual understanding and respect. Within the framework of the association, we work hard on the use congregational activities to create a sense of belonging through conferences and speeches, through common activities such as dinners and outside activities, through learning schools such as Fikh, Qur’an lesson and much more. We have started the very first Quranic schools in Iceland for young people and kids back in 1996 starting with only 3-4 children beginning from the very first Arabic letters. And now we have had so far over 50 students coming and going in the school, which we call “The Saturday School” and 20-25 children have now reached the Qur'an with at least 5 children with full Tajweed. Not only that, we also teach the kids how to be a productive citizen in the Icelandic society, how to be a good human being through Islamic values and how to be an idol of upcoming generations.
Your help will enable the continuation of these projects and activities in the institution in the coming years and will enable the education of younger generations with a pure spirit by being an example in reflecting the pure virtues in the society that surrounds us.
