In the midnight of the 03rd November 2023, while far villages in West Nepal were sleeping, the devastating earthquake of 6.4 ML came as a real nightmare, and hit that area, took many lives and left many people and children without home, shelter, food, and in need for our help. In this tragedy more than 150 lives were lost, from which 80 were children. 60,000+ houses were damaged, and 26,531 families are displaced in this moment (approx. 132,000 individuals).

More than 600 aftershocks happened, including a 5.8 ML strong one on 06th November 2023.This all is making conditions of survivals worst every day. In this post earthquake period, people are going through everyday challenges for basic needs, while having no options but to sleep in cold nights of Himalayas mountains with no roof, shelter and often without enough clothes and food left. Situation is taking its toll on the emotional, mental and physical health in every sense. In those conditions, the cold took another 38 lives already and it is threatening to take more while we are writing this that requires lot of responses with resources. Thousands of children do not have neither home nor school.

West Nepal Rebuilding Project has already started with the preliminary research works and Media Monitoring. The First Phase of work will be to equip the communities and the schools with temporary shelter & warm clothes in order to help them in their rehabilitation process especially to combat with the ongoing winter season and those heavy conditions they are exposed to, so we do not lose more lives.

The West Nepal Temporary School Rebuilding Project - I addresses the critical need to reconstruct educational infrastructure following recent natural disasters. Specifically focused on Nalgad 7, Jajarkot, the Community Innovation Organization (CIO) initiative aims to construct a temporary school shelter for Shree Saraswoti Primary School. This endeavor is essential in providing a secure and conducive learning environment for the affected students and contributes to the overall recovery of the local community.

To ensure the project's viability, a comprehensive observation was done in the project area. This assessment provides valuable insights into the existing conditions, challenges, and opportunities, laying the groundwork for the successful implementation of the West Nepal Temporary School Rebuilding Project. It serves as a foundational step in understanding the specific needs and intricacies of the targeted community.

This is our collaborative; multi-institutional approach seeks to cultivate a sense of belonging and compassion for the public good. Notably, the project focuses on rebuilding the Sarswati Primary School in Nalgad, Jajarkot, catering to 61 students aged 3-13.

(CIO) is an NGO, is strongly immersed and committed in making positive impact in Nepal's development sector through Rhisomatic and Transformational participatory projects. Our focus is on Root Education, Food and Nutrition Security, Safeguarding the Environment, nourishing maternal and child health, and nurturing inclusive community well-being.
