Campaign Story
As a result of the recent, repetitive earthquakes and strong tremors in Lombok, homes and buildings like schools, have been destroyed, leaving the villagers homeless and bereft of important facilities. Travel has also been made difficult due to the destruction of roads and blockages caused by the ruined buildings.
I was in Desa Pandanan, Malaka (Lombok) twice within a month - first, a week after the earthquakes happened with Indonesia's HOPE Worldwide team, and second, about a month post earthquakes, alone, to check on the conditions of the village. I saw firsthand the destruction caused by the earthquakes and the loss suffered by the people there. Even after a month since the occurrence of the earthquakes, little to no improvements have been made, and aid given thus far has been insufficient in easing the sufferings of the villagers there.
Currently, children/youth resume their learning in temporary schools, which are in forms of tents/shelters. Furthermore, the destruction of roads and pathways has made the process of rebuilding the village's infrastructure long and arduous due to the difficulty in transporting the necessary tools and materials; workers have to manually transport those tools to designated areas.
Thus, my goal is to ensure that the learning environment of these children improves and that the rebuilding process of Desa Pandanan (especially homes, schools and pathways/roads) is enhanced. The donations received would be given directly to the Head of the village, and would be used to help with the rebuilding of infrastructure - particularly in creating efficient/sturdy pathways and roads for accessibility of aid/tools to badly damaged areas. Secondly, the funds raised would also be used for rebuilding of schools to ensure that these children are able to receive an optimal learning environment as soon as possible.
I hope that you will be able to contribute to this cause so as to help the people of Lombok recover. No amount is too small, and every single contribution will go a long way.
