An electrical fire broke out in my 2nd grade classroom at Thomas Hooker Elementary School in Meriden, CT on Friday, August 10th, leaving my classroom with fire, smoke, and water damage. It is almost unrecognizable. My classroom does not have traditional classroom seating. Three years ago I transformed my classroom into flexible seating, where students self-select their best spot to learn. I wrote 4 Donor's Choose projects which have been fully funded in order to make this transformation possible. I fully believe in student choice to promote engagement and focus. Students discover their own learning style and select the seating choice that best fits them! They have the ability to wiggle, bounce, stand, fidget, and lounge comfortably in the environment that fits their own learning style. As I embark on my 12th year teaching at Thomas Hooker, I need to start from the ground up. I need your help to get my flexible seating classroom back up and running for my new group of smiling faces waiting to start their new school year! Thank YOU!!
