Campaign Story
We are trying to rebuild our shop, which was completely damaged in the devastating earthquake on 29th December, 2020. The building itself is currently still there, but due to the damage caused by the main earthquake and over 600 aftershocks, it has been condemned and it will be torn down. The earthquake completely destroyed the center of our town and all the proud, magnificent 18th and 19th century have been reduced to rubble... our shop was in the town center and suffered the same fate as buildings around it - the few that are still standing will be demolished as they are unsafe. It is indescribably hard watching something you have invested your life into, disappear in a blink of an eye, leaving us heartbroken, desperate and fearful for the future... Petrinja is a small town, it suffered devastation in the war, but it bounced back, life returned into it and it got its heart back, only to be knocked down to the ground again by this horrific force of nature. Like every small town shop, ours was much more than that - it was a hub for people who would pop in just to say hi and see how we are, a place where people came with problems and left with a smile, a meeting place for many, a helping hand for an elderly person unable to charge/top up phone to make a call to relatives near and far... Everyone knew us by our names and we knew them all by their names. Such is a power of a small town shop... As a team, we are trying to stuck together, through thick and thin, all 3 of my employee and myself. We often get stopped on the streets and people ask us when and where will we open again... nobody asked IF we are opening, they need us and we need them. The shop also had a mobile phone repair center and a key cutting service that served the whole town, we are intertwined with the community on so many levels. My 3 employees have got families to look after and I am eager to get them back working and earning a wage. What we are hoping is to get funding to buy an earthquake-safe, modular construction to house the shop in and a plot of land near the main roads on which to place it. As I write this description, the ground beneath us is still shaking, but we feel the calm coming and hope we are able to rebuild our shop and our community yet again, like a Phoenix. Our town motto is "Small town with a bih heart" and I hope you all come visit one day and see why.
