Realizing my dream

My name is Dror. I am a graduate (B.Des) of the Industrial Design Department in Bezalel – the Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.

I was born in Israel and lived in Israel all my life. I have been supporting myself since I was 18 with very limited help from my family. My parents are divorced and I’m the second among 3 brothers. Both of my parents are able to support themselves but could not help me financially.

 I always had a strong attraction towards design thinking and the art fields. Industrial design was a natural and clear choice for me. My 4 years of school at Bezalel were full of excitement, thrill and discovery for me. At the same time it was a very financially hard period for me. School was very demanding while I was working nights and weekends as a security guard, a hotel receptionist etc.

Although the 4 years at Bezalel had been a constant financial struggle for me, I have now decided to take another step towards my dreams and passions and start a master degree program of Transportation Design in Turin, Italy.

The school im about to attend is one of the best schools in the world for transportation design. Students arrive from all over the world and admission is tough. I already applied for the school and got accepted for this year (  2013).

Though I managed to support myself throughout my first degree – this one is a bit harder. The school fees are very high and finding a job will probably take some time – since I do not speak Italian yet. Moreover, I understood studying in that school is challenging and leaves very little time to work, if at all.

As a designer I concentrate a lot on local production, sustainability and social design. I believe in local design based on observation, cultural context and environmental attention. I strongly believe in the ability of good design to initiate and to carry out processes towards smart solutions for our future challenges. 

I am trying to raise 4500 $ - which is part of the school fee for the master degree. A donation by you would mean continue following my dream and opening the world of design to me. Your donation will bring me closer to an opportunity to change and influence one of the world’s top industrial fields.
