What is the problem we're trying to solve?

Learning difficulties are on the rise, and public schools, being overwhelmed and under capacitated are failing dismally at solving the problem, often banishing struggling children to the 'slow' class or coercing parents to medicate them or dispatching them off to remedial schools.

We have just secured the rights of Edublox Learning Centre that has an extraordinaryly high success rate in improving learning and reading difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia ADD and ADHD

Edublox has about 38 clinics and centres, 30 years experience using specialised cognitive training in reading, spelling, comprehension and maths. The centre is aimed at children from grades 2-7.

Who are we?

My sister & I are driven by an unquenchable passion and an innate desire to make in difference in and around the spaces we live in. As Pastors daughters we were exposed to all forms of community development and social needs. This produced a love and compassion in our hearts for diverse people, particularly the marginalised, broken, failing and socially cast away.

Where is this issue happening?

We are based in the Durban South basin, South Africa, covering many previously disadvantaged communities.

This intervention will enable us to make a profound difference in the life of every child that is struggling with learning and feels they can't make it. We want to restore hope to the child and the parent.

When did the issue begin, and when will it end?

My sisters 8year old son drags his feet at the thought of going to school. He is very bright, good at maths, plays several sports, very active but struggles with reading.Fortunately his mum caught this early and by the third grade, via online assessment diagnosed dyslexia. Through their online tutoring app, although not consistently used, he made much progress. She also utilises multi sensory and innovative ways to teach and engage him in learning. Our personal experience with his difficulties has inspired us to help others in a similar predicament.

Why does this cause matter? Some stats....

South Africa ranked last out of 50 countries in the 2016 Progress in International Reading Literacy (PIRLS) study which tested reading comprehension of learners in their fourth year of primary schooling. The study found that 78% of South African pupils at this level could not read for meaning.

Illiteracy breeds exclusion in every area of society, and it comes with a hefty price tag. In 2010, it was estimated that illiteracy costs South Africa R450 billion each year.

Calling it a crisis is an understatement.

This is important to us because if we can correct the issues at the foundations, then we have a higher chance of producing the desired results for a decent life. Whereas a child typically struggling with learning and reading is much more likely to become disengaged and more likely to eventually drop out.

Without an education, gainful employment is slim to none, and more often than not, crime becomes the solution or a grossly under achieving life. And so the cycle continues.

These funds will help us secure the specialised software, equipment, and initial start up costs.

Your contribution would make a tremendous difference , so we thank you in advance and appreciate your time and generosity.
