Campaign Story
Reach Out: The Power of Music is a community outreach program founded by a student from Garden International School, in collaboration with Oasis place. Our vision is to set up a sustainable program in which GIS students are trained by professional music therapists, empowering them with the skills and knowledge to conduct their own sessions with the refugees of COBEM (supported by UNHCR) and the children with Down Syndrome from PDK Selayang.
The Burma ethnic refugees and asylum seekers of COBEM have faced obstacles and traumatic experiences from a very early age, thus, it is essential that these children receive a platform to relax, have fun and feel happier. For this reason, we believe that a music therapy style program not only gives the refugees a chance to creatively express themselves in a safe environment, but also fosters empathy and commitment to caring for mental health amongst the youth of our generation.
Why Oasis Place?
Oasis Place is a multidisciplinary intervention centre that provides world class psychology, speech and language rehabilitation and music therapy to people of all ages- specialising in caring for those with neurodegenerative disorders.
