On Saturday, April 25, 2015, a devastating 7.9 Magnitude earthquake struck Nepal with its epicenter in the Barpak village of Gorkha District in Nepal, 65 km west of the Capital, Kathmandu. It has already destroyed whole villages near the epicenter and as far as China border and is accountable for more than 8600 casualties with the numbers increasing daily. It has also destroyed various ancient heritage sites and temples around the country. With the impact far reaching, we are worried about the students that are living in the affected area whose schools are most probably not standing.

From the very beginning, we have been working on the immediate relief programs for those people in need, voluntarily. We managed some instant food items, tarpaulins, blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene items, medicines and others. We reached more than 900 families in 7 districts: Kathmandu, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha and Okhaldhunga. We offered whatever we could voluntarily.

Along with other things, schools are hit the worst. It is estimated that with more than 15,000 schools affected, more than 25000 rooms are partially or totally destroyed affecting more than a million students in it. Gorkha district alone reported more than 90% schools affected. Since, we have long been working for children and their education, we decided to move from immediate relief items, to something long-lasting. So we created this campaign : Rebuild Schools, Rebuild Nepal.

Government has already instructed the re-opening of schools, and they have begun again. But more than a million children, are either under temporary learning centers or open spaces for the education. To begin with, we have managed to build 5 rooms for a HIV School at Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal where lives 21 children with HIV. Now, we are planning to begin another school building at Chepang Village in Dhading, the proposal is included with the email. After this gets underway, we will go another remote village, to track the education back on form.

Here, we would like to request you to assist on our mission of rebuilding Nepal through rebuilding schools. We assure you that your money will be invested on the most needy community schools, under required law and provisions. Our role will be the selection of most needed areas, facilitating the building process and making sure rebuilding schools actually takes place.

The amount raised will be used by us, tfcNepal (Tweet for Cause, Nepal, a lose group of volunteers mostly working in the sector of children and their education, connected through twitter. Info: www.tfcnepal.com, http://twitter.com/tfcnepal, http://facebook.com/tfcnepal)
