Re-building Jetty ABULA

Hello everyone, if you are wondering what is this fundraising all about, it is a campaign for saving rivers and maintaining it as it was before. My great grandmother and grandfather used to lived near the river, as river was deemed as important source of water in the old days (1940's) for water supply and daily routine as source for paddy field. As of now, this river was in dying state as it was not as clean and polluted with endless of garbage and thrash which can be found at a dumpster. So, as a community living near the river, preservative and prevention to protect the river are part of the responsibility of ours to maintain it.

What is ABULA?

Well, the word ABULA is actually stands for calling of a crocodile name. As previous stories shared by our grandparents, there are few encounters with crocodiles around the river, as this was naturally their habitat. As a Kadazan-Chinese (Sino-kadazan) descendants, this is quite unique name for our community as a part of unity among families and friends of surrounding area.

This jetty ABULA was build and established since the year of 2013, and been self-maintained ever since. It has been used for holding parties and events especially during family gathering and seasonal celebration such as Kaamatan, Chinese New Year, New Year celebration, and annual gathering for SABAH RIVERS MONTH. Not only surrounding community were involved in the gathering, but sometimes people from the outside do take part in the gathering and witness the celebration. They can also enjoy a ride on a raft that was decorated to take part in the annual competition with only a very minimal fee.

But due to the economics recession and floods from river which will flow out when heavy rain occur, it is hard to properly maintain and building a strong jetty. The main idea for this crowdfunding is to seek for funds in building our beloved jetty ABULA to be a strong jetty with proper tools and equipment plus amenities that can be used for incoming events and party that held surrounding the area during seasonal holiday celebration.
