Hello! I'm taking part in this year's South Coast Roll skate marathon on Sunday 31st May 2015 for a number of reasons.
Firstly I want to take part as it's a challenge I just couldn't resist.
Along the way I want to try to raise some money to help out some great causes... and I've chosen to split my raised funds into 3.
1. The Women
I am part of the 10% of women who have Endometriosis. For those who know nothing about this it is a chronic and debilitating desease that causes horrible pain and can lead to infertility, fatigue and bowel and bladder problems.
Around 1.5 million women in the UK are currently living with the condition. Endometriosis can affect all women and girls of a childbearing age, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Although it took a long time to get diagnosed, and after living with pain that made me pass out and have to take time off work, I managed to get wonderful care and am having regular treatment for it.
I know that not everyone has been so lucky and really struggle with it. This is where 'Endometriosis UK' really try to help. They are an organisation that work hard to offer advice and support for Endo sufferers. I will be donating a 3rd of my raised funds to this great organisation!
2. The Children
Some of us love them, some of us can't stand them.. but we were all one once.
Children are vulnerable and sadly many suffer in silence.
'Stop It Now', part of the Lucy Faithful Foundation, is an orgaisation that specialises in helping to stop child sexual abuse. They offer support to the children and their families. This is an organisation I have only recently discovered, but after asking them for more info, which they provided, I felt that this was an organisation I definately wanted to help. If it can help one troubled child...or even better, save one, then great!
My roller derby team, Big Bucks High Rollers are a hard working bunch and are having to travel far this year to be involved in the British Championships. Our only way of being able to be a team and take part in this great sport means relying on training payments from the players and also fund raising.
I want to help them out, so even a small amount can probably go quite far. I also want to help the team out because they have changed my life in more ways than I can explain (but don't tell them I said that).
If you can please spare a few quid, I'd be really grateful!
Thank you x
