Rare disorder (TMAU)

My name is Lara, I reside in Dubai. I moved here in efforts to find myself a job and support my family in hopes of living a more comfortable life.
Unfortunately for me, I suffer from a rare genetic disorder known as Trimethylaminuria. The disorder affects 1% of the population. Because of this very reason there is not much awareness, nor research and there is no cure.

Briefly to explain what TMAU is:

One lacks the FMO3 gene and their bodies are unable to metabolize foods that contain trimethylamine which is a highly odorous chemical found in these foods. Without the support of the gut bacteria to break down this chemical and turn it into the chemical that doesn’t smell there is a build up of trimethylamine in the body and gets into bodily fluids like sweat. This causes the “carrier” to suffer from unpleasant body odors. Such as a rotten food smell, garbage, sewage, urine & feces odor that emanates from the body.

Dubai is constantly thriving and is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities, there are wonderful opportunities here for people with passion and drive but to my disadvantage, because of my condition I have failed to achieve my goals and fulfill my dreams. My condition has left me feeling conscious and degraded, unworthy and I have lost the confidence I once had. I do not live a normal life anymore & I am unable to work now because co-workers have complained about the “smell”. This has affected me mentally too and I find myself on the verge of depression. For many years I have tried to conceal my odor but always failed and it was made clear to me that I didn’t belong in society. I’ve lost friends, partners and even my family cannot be in a room with me for more than a few minutes.
I need to get some medical attention and find a way either out of my current situation or out of the country in order to receive the help I need.

Please feel free to do your own research on the subject, there is lack of awareness, sure. But you will find enough information to know the facts and the affects it has on people with trimetylaminuria. It is very real.
