Ramana’s Garden Children’s Home

Ramana's Garden is a Children's Home in Rishikesh, India, which is home to 60 at risk children, as well as a free school for 160 students bothfrom Ramana's and local underprivileged families. Ramana's Garden vision is that every child, regardless of caste, creed, or social-economic background, has the right to quality education, proper nutrition and primary healthcare. This children's home is filled with love, happiness, support and the most incredible children. Because of Ramana's, these kids have a shelter, food, clothing, education, and a future. Ramana's is located right on the River Ganges in Rishikesh, the foothills of the Himalayas, and everything is eco-friendly, organic, and as self sufficient as possible. We grow vegetables in our own gardens and have a range of animals (cows, chickens, a mule, dogs and goats) which give a supply of food to the home. We run an organic cafe on site where the kids help serve and customers are able to interact with the children. The school runs on the proceeds from the cafe as well as donations, and the teachers are local women from the nearby village or volunteers. In their free time, the children make extra money by selling their art, cards, and chocolates and some of the older children teach skills like Indian dance or yoga to travellers in our Ramana's hall. Parts of the compound are currently solar or wind powered, and the hope is to be completely run on sustainable energy in the future when it is possible economically for installation. Although Ramanas is as self-sufficient as it can be, it does rely on fundraising and donations to be able to continue providing for the children. Winter is coming and along with that comes the cold weather, and we current volunteers have decided to help with the fundraising. Your donations would be used for blankets, warm clothes, food and we are hoping to get each kid a small individualised gift for Christmas.
