Ramadan and Eid food packs for Widows in Uganda

The Widows Gift have been coordinating monthly meals and food packs for widows in Pakistan since October last year.

After successfully funding 80 food packs in Pakistan we want to contribute to a community of widows in Uganda through a woman led local NGO in Pallissa.

Our target is to reach 30 widows and their children with staple foods for the remaining week of Ramadan. The packs consist of rice, posho (maize meal), chapatti flour, beans, nuts, dates, ghee, tea and fruit juice and cost £23 each including transport and fees.

The breakdown cost is as follows:

5kg rice = 20,000 UGX 5kg maize meal = 10,000 UGX. 2kg Chapatti flour = 10,000 UGX. 2kg beans = 3,000 UGX. 1kg Ghee = 5,000 UGX. 2 ltr UHT = 4,000 UGX. 500g tea = 5,000 UGX. 1kg dates = 12,000 UGX. 1kg nuts = 5,000 UGX. 1ltr fruit juice = 5,000 UGX. 1kg sugar = 4,000 UGX

TOTAL: 83,000 UGX (£18.00)

Plus £5 to include volunteer transport and transaction fees = £23.00

An Eid lunch at the cost of £45 will provide 30 widows and their children with vital social connection during religious celebrations where we look to develop further into our monthly meal programme.
