Rajan’s Prosthesis

ABOUT SELF:

Hi, My name is RAJAN, and i am married to CARMEN; and we are blessed with 2 kids: TRYPHENA GRACE (aged 13 yrs.), and THEO CALEB (aged 11 yrs.). I am an above knee amputee - lost my left leg due to medical negligence, when i went for a minor corrective surgery, for my polio in the year 2005.

THE PROSTHESIS:

Since 2006, I have been using OttoBock's 3R80 kneejoint, and it has served me well these past 9 years. Owing to the wear and tear, i am told that i need to replace it with a new limb, and all that it entails. The suggested one from OttoBock is the 3E80 joint, which gives more stability than the hydraulic one which i am using now.

HOW IT WILL HELP:

While the 3R80 (the current prosthesis) has helped me to be mobile and independent, there are certain limitations with it, as with any artificial limbs. The major challenge has been the lack of support from that limb, when walking or stepping on uneven terrains, causing me to stumble and eventually tumble. The new 3E80 knee joint comes witha micro-chip, which helps in sensing certain pitfalls such as that, to give more stability to the stance, thereby avoiding the fall.

Having donned a prosthesis for the last 9 years, i think i am ready for the next level - though ideally, the latest Genium X3 would be best suited, which is way beyond my wildest imagination.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED?

Usually fund-raising such as this is done by those undertaking volunteer runs, walks, cycling expedition ... since i can't do any of those for any length of time, i am choosing to drive my car for 1500 kms. (up and down overall), for our Regional Church Conference, which wil be held in Kanya Kumari (the Southern tip of India) in the month of May.

To make it easier, I am breaking this trip into 250 sections of 6 kms. each.

You can pledge whatever amount you wish to give per section.

For eg:  if you wish to DONATE 1$ per section (or 1 Euro, or 1 Pound, etc.), then your total contribution would be 250 sections x 1$, Euros, or Pounds.
