Hey everyone! My name is Nikko Jordan. You may recognize me from some of the videos you have seen me in on the net. I produce/edit all of my own videos and also run my own website. I am a graphic/web designer by trade but have been doing videos/modeling off and on for the past 17+ years.
What I am looking to obtain:
- 4.2GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
- 8GB 2400MHz DDR4
- 512GB SSD
- Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory
- Magic Mouse 2
- Magic Keyboard - US English
Right now I am currently trying to re-build my website to a platform that has a members section via Modelcentro. With this new site I have all new branding...new logo, watermark and intro animation. This means that I have to re-edit all of my videos to implement this new branding. It's tough when you are doing everything yourself. Things only get done on the days I have time to devote to my work and I am still shooting videos for myself and other individuals trying to make a living as well. So to streamline my workflow on the days I work on the site I have upgraded to Gigabit internet (which is AMAZING!!!! I can't believe how much faster my upload speed is now!) But of course now that my upload speed is considerably faster I am noticing how slow my computer is with handling the video editing side of things.
I am currently running on a MacBook pro mid-2014 and I am finding that when I am using Final Cut Pro to edit my videos things are just suuuuuuuuuuuper slow. It's slowing my workflow down considerably...especially if I have a video that I am working on that has a lot of layers (music, effects, etc). My computer has been great to me all of these years and is still in perfect shape so I'd love to keep this as a second portable computer for mostly web/graphic design stuff.
After much research on the iMac that would be best suited for video editing I settled on something that is mid-range with the base 8GB memory RAM (which I will upgrade myself for a fraction of the cost than it would be to have it pre-installed via apple), a 512GB SSD drive (SSD is crucial for me and I don't need anything larger than 512GB because I keep all of my files/libraries on externals) and I will definitely need the 8GB video memory to make my video editing go as smooth and fast as possible.
Long story short this is why I am seeking donations towards a new computer, one that has a faster processor, more memory and higher video memory.
